FIND A COUNSELLOR

When "Making it Work" Isn't Enough

In the film industry, we are trained to be the ultimate problem solvers. We handle grueling schedules, changing locations, and high-pressure deadlines without breaking a sweat. But when it comes to our own mental well-being, knowing where to start—or how to fit a session into a 14-hour day—can feel like an impossible production.

You might be asking:

  • How do I find someone who will understand my issues?

  • Will i find someone I feel comfortable with and connect with?

  • Is there a way to get help that fits my schedule and budget?

  • Can it be in-person or remote/video/phone?

Taking the step to reach out isn't a sign that you can't handle the job; it’s the most important piece of "prep" you can do for your long-term career. Whether you need a quick check-in or a long-term therapeutic match, there are resources designed to meet you exactly where you are.

Quick & Free: Union Member Assistance (MAP/EAP)

If you are a member of a BC film union, your first and fastest step is your Member/Employee Assistance Program (MAP/EAP). These programs are designed for the industry and offer:

  • Counsellor Matching: Your intake counsellor will help find a counsellor that fits your needs (schedule, preferences, issue you’re dealing with)

  • No-Cost Access: Counseling sessions are pre-paid by your union health plan.

  • Immediate Support: Most offer 24/7 hotlines and can match you with a counsellor within days.

  • Short-Term Focus: Ideal for addressing immediate stress, burnout, or a specific crisis.

  • Confidentiality: These services are completely private; your union and your production will never know you called.

Find your specific Union MAP/EAP link here.

Use our Calltime Union Benefits section to find the program servicing your specific union (ACFC West Local 2020, DGC BC, IATSE 891, ICG 669, Teamsters 155 or UBCP / ACTRA).
