Member and Family Assistance Program (MFAP) arranged through AFBS and provided by Morneau Shepell:

Counselling and work-life services are availabe to AFBS Members who are insured for extended health care benefits, as well as their immediate family. For confidential assistance 24/7 call Morneau Shepell at 1 844 880 9142.

Counselling services can be arranged to fit your needs whether that's face-to-face, over the phone or online, and can address a wide range of issues and life situations including:

  • Personal/emotional (stress, anxiety, abuse, self-esteem)
  • Family (parenting, blended family, elder-related, child/adolescent behaviour)
  • Couple/relationships (separation/divorce, communication, relationship breakdown)
  • Addiction-related (alcohol, drugs, others' addictions, gambling)
  • Career/work (workplace stress, workplace violence/harassment)

Work-life services offer professional support and information in areas including legal, family and financial issues, as well as health/wellness, nutritional and naturopathic areas.

Addiction Treatment Benefit, a Fraternal benefit provided by AFBS:

  • Assists eligible AFBS Members who are struggling with addiction or seeking treatment

Weekly Total Disability Benefit

  • Provides eligible Members who are unable to work due to sickness or injury with access to disability benefits for up to 52 weeks

Services provided by a registered psychologist or counsellor holding a Master of Social work (MSW)

  • Provides eligible Members with help in covering the cost of professional counselling services
